US 1958-61 Stamp set

Here are descriptions of some of the stamps that are included in this assorted US Stamps package # 4003 1958 4¢ Noah Webster showcases Noah Webster, who completed the first version of his American Dictionary of the English Language in 1806. It wasn’t the first American dictionary – Samuel Johnson, Jr., published one in 1798 – but Webster’s work had the much greater impact. It helped standardize American pronunciation. Issue Date: October 16, 1958. Perforations: 10 ½ x 11. Color: Dark carmine rose. 1959 4¢ Dental Health was issued on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the American Dental Association. The group was founded in 1859 to promote oral health care and the science of dentistry. Issue Date: September 14, 1959 Perforations: 11 x 10 ½. Color: Green. 1960-61 4¢ Francis Scott Key American Credo Series The quote inscribed here came from Francis Scott Key’s poem, “Defense of Fort McHenry.” The poem, once set to a tune popular at the time called “To Anacreon in Heaven,” became the “Star-Spangled Banner, and our nation’s national anthem. Issue Date: September 14, 1960. Perforations: 11. Color: Carmine and dark blue. 1960 4¢ World Refugee Year. The United States joined many other nations in issuing stamps to symbolize their participation in the United Nations’ World Refugee Year. The U.N. proclaimed International Refugee Year from July 1, 1959, until June 30, 1960. Issue Date: April 7, 1960. Perforations: 11 x 10 ½. Color: Gray black. 1959 4¢ NATO Issue. This stamp commemorates the 10th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). NATO is a government alliance originally established to counter the threat of the Soviet-dominated Warsaw Pact (alliance of Eastern European Communist nations). Issue Date: April 1, 1959. Perforations: 10 ½ x 11. Color: Blue. 4¢ Wheels of Freedom, was issued to coincide with the opening of the 1960 National Automobile Show in Detroit, Michigan. The stamp pictures a steering wheel with a car, truck, and tractor in each section. On either side of the wheel are the Western and Eastern Hemispheres of Earth. Issue Date: October 15, 1960. Perforations: 11 x 10 ½. Color: Dark blue.
