US 1960-61 Stamp set

Here are descriptions of some of the stamps that are included in this assorted US Stamps package # 4000 1960 4¢ SEATO was issued in Washington, D.C., on the same day as the South-East Asia Treaty Organization’s (SEATO) Sixth Annual Conference began. Perforations: 10 ½ 11, Color: Blue. 4¢ Mexican Independence, a joint issue with Mexico, commemorates the 150th anniversary of Mexican Independence. The stamp pictures the historic bell Miguel Hidalgo brought to Mexico City from Dolores, Mexico, and rang his call for independence. Perforations: 11, Color: Green and rose red. 4¢ John Foster Dulles, honors late Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. The image of Dulles was based on a photograph by Whit Keith, Jr. of the Department of State. Perforations: 10 1/2 x 11, Color: Dull violet 4¢ Firing on Fort Sumter - Civil War Centennial Issue. Fort Sumter was the site for the first fighting of the Civil War. The fort is located on Sullivan’s Island at the entrance to the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina. Perforations: 11 x 1.5 Color: Light green 1962 4¢ Project Mercury, features the “Friendship 7” space capsule flown by John Glenn in the first successful orbit of the Earth. The mission was the result of a secret project run by the Post Office Department. Perforations: 11, Color: Dark blue and yellow 4¢ Mahatma Gandhi - Champions of Liberty Series, Mahatma Gandhi, or “Great Soul,” was the leading political and spiritual leader of India during that nation’s independence movement. He founded the idea of satyagraha, or “soul force,” which is a form of nonviolent resistance, which included civil disobedience. Perforations: 10 1/2 x 11, Color: Red orange
